Andy Reid explained why Patrick Mahomes and Eric Bieniemy were spotted arguing on the Chiefs sideline.
The Chiefs (Shop Chiefs Fan Gear) were poised to take a lead into halftime of their game Sunday against the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas when things went awry.
Instead, the Chiefs ended up trailing by three points after their drive fell apart on the shadow of the end zone.
Trailing by three with 1 minute, 42 seconds to play before halftime, the Chiefs had a first down at the Raiders’ 5-yard line after a 42-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to Tyquan Thornton. Running back Kenneth Walker picked up 2 yards, but Mahomes was then sacked for a 7-yard loss. Mahomes then threw an incomplete pass to tight end Noah Gray. Rather than scoring a go-ahead touchdown, the Chiefs had to settle for a 28-yard field goal from Harrison Butker. The Raiders then moved the ball 41 yards and got a field goal of their own before the second quarter ended. That gave Las Vegas a 13-10 lead at the break.
As the Raiders were driving, CBS Sports’ cameras caught Mahomes and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy having a heated discussion on the Chiefs sideline.
CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson talked with Chiefs coach Andy Reid off camera after halftime. She relayed this message from Reid: “That is just frustration and competitiveness. You have to score when you get down there.”
