While chatting with PEOPLE at the VIP Opening of NBC’s Law & Order “Dun Dun Diner” on Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Law & Order: SVU star, 62, opened up about the pair’s friendship following their recent Emmys skit.
“Taylor Swift showed up on the set of SVU with a box this big of sourdough chocolate chip cookies, and I was so blown away because she made them, and they might have been the best cookies I’ve ever had, and it was extraordinary,” Hargitay tells PEOPLE. “So that’s how she opened.”
The pop superstar, 36, made a surprise appearance alongside Hargitay, the awards show’s host, in a funny SVU-themed bit during the 2026 Emmy Awards on Sept. 14.
In the pre-recorded sketch, Hargitay channeled her character Olivia Benson as she worked with a team to uncover whether Swift would show up at the ceremony.
Swift herself played a rookie detective, poking fun at Swifties’ love of Easter eggs while helping solve the mystery. The “Patient Zero” singer’s cat Olivia Benson even made an appearance.
“We just had such a great time, and it was so cozy and familiar, and she’s such a pro, and she was such a great sport to do anything and everything,” Hargitay says. “It’s so collaborative and so good.”
“She’s such a good actor and so charming and charismatic,” she adds. “It was such a thrill for everybody — not only obviously me and the cast, but for everybody, the entire crew. She is extraordinary.”
SVU star Kelli Giddish shared a similar sentiment during the 3rd Hour of Today on Thursday, Oct. 8.
“First of all, it was like the Pope was coming,” Giddish said of Swift. “We did it very on the DL on a Sunday with just the skeleton crew. The writers for the Emmys were our background.”
“And then she comes in and she’s just so happy to be there,” Giddish continued. “She’s such a fan of the show. She was like, ‘You guys, seriously, I’m so excited to be here.’ We were like, ‘We’re excited you’re here!’ And we just had fun.”
Giddish then gave a shoutout to Swift’s baked treats, saying the musician scored “major points” with her culinary talent
“They were sourdough brown butter chocolate chip cookies,” she recalled. “They were so good.”
Giddish, who plays Amanda Rollins on the show, previously raved about the cookies during the Sept. 22 episode of the Women in Entertainment podcast.
“I’m kind of a cookie snob, so I was really pleased,” she noted.
Swift famously loves baking sourdough loaves and gifting them to friends, often with bread puns featuring nods to her songs.
She gave Jimmy Fallon a “Loaf of a Doughgirl” following the release of her 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The pop star presented BBC Radio 1 host Greg James with a lemon-blueberry sourdough loaf in a bag inscribed with “The Fate of Doughphelia.” Pals Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco received bread with the message, “It’s a loaf story.”
Earlier this year, Swift’s husband Travis Kelce joked that he broke Swift’s chair because of weight he gained from eating her homemade sourdough.
