Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai and other tech heavyweights signed the accord. But the line everyone ended up talking about was underneath Donald Trump’s name. š¤£
Donald Trump has signed a major new White House agreement with some of the worldās biggest technology companies.
Unfortunately, somebody appears to have forgotten how to spell the name of the country he is president of.
The White House Accord on Super Intelligence was signed by Trump and executives from companies including Meta, Google, Nvidia, Anthropic and OpenAI on Tuesday.
On the second page of the document, underneath Trumpās signature, his title reads:
The document was subsequently posted by Trump himself on Truth Social, with the typo still clearly visible.
As of Wednesday morning, HuffPost reported that the image containing the mistake remained on the presidentās account.
The mistake appeared on a document which the White House is treating rather more seriously.
Trump hosted senior technology executives in Washington on September 29 before announcing a voluntary agreement setting out principles for companies developing advanced artificial intelligence.
Executives involved included Metaās Mark Zuckerberg, Googleās Sundar Pichai, Nvidiaās Jensen Huang, Anthropicās Dario Amodei, OpenAI president Greg Brockman and Elon Musk.
The agreement calls on companies developing frontier AI systems to introduce several layers of oversight.
Those include stronger internal controls, dedicated monitoring teams, external audits and independent board-level oversight.
It is not legally binding.
Trump described it as āmorally bindingā and compared it to a constitution for the industry.
āItās almost like a constitution, in a way,ā he said.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said the companies were voluntarily committing themselves to greater oversight and transparency.
The agreement leaves much of that monitoring in the hands of the companies themselves.
The event also came with another characteristically Trump addition.
He wants the US government to stop calling artificial intelligence āartificial intelligenceā.
Instead, the administration is moving towards the term āSuper Intelligenceā, or SI.
Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use the new terminology, arguing that the word āartificialā has negative associations.
The White House agreement itself is formally titled the White House Accord on Super Intelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities.
Trump told reporters the companies involved would largely police themselves.
āTheyāre really going to be policing each other,ā he said.
The voluntary approach comes as governments around the world continue to debate how tightly increasingly powerful AI models should be regulated.
