BREAKING: Star Chiefs Player S.h.o.t Multiple Times & Pronounced D.e.a.d At The Scene
He was a four-star defensive end.
Top football prospect Chris Wilson has lost his life under tragic circumstances.
The Yorktown High School senior stood 6-foot-5 and weighed 235 pounds. A defensive end who committed to West Virginia on June 11, he was the highest-rated football recruit in East Central Indiana.
Wilson earned four-star ratings from On3 and 247Sports. As a junior, he recorded 25 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and four sacks, according to Sports Illustrated. Auburn, Wisconsin, and Texas A&M also offered him. So did Missouri and Ole Miss, according to West Virginia Sports Nation. Rivals ranked him No. 153 nationally.
Wilson had 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack through five games this fall. He was set to graduate in 2027; instead, a community has been plunged into mourning, with another young life now cut short.
Police responded to the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue just before 3 a.m. and found the 17-year-old inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to WV MetroNews. Dispatchers received the call at 2:59 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Yorktown Community Schools confirmed Wilson’s death. Principal Stacey Brewer addressed the loss, saying that “Chris Wilson, a senior at Yorktown High School, died tragically early this morning.”
She called him “a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community.” Counselors will be available when classes resume after fall break. Police said there is no threat to students or schools.
Mike Wilhelm, Yorktown’s head football coach, remembered Wilson as “a great football player, but an even better friend and teammate.” Wilhelm added that Wilson shied away from the attention that comes with being a top Division I recruit.
Muncie police are leading the investigation. No arrests have been reported as yet but anyone with information can reach the department’s detective division at 765-747-4867 or call 911.
