The surprising names Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis go by at school
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children reportedly go by George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales at school.
The royal siblings use that surname instead of being called Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, according to Hello! magazine.
“Wales” is a nod to their parents’ titles, the Prince and Princess of Wales, which the couple were given after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022.
William, 44, and Prince Harry, 42, were called William Wales and Harry Wales when they were in school and in the military, given their father, King Charles, was the Prince of Wales at the time.
William’s children used to be called George Cambridge, Charlotte Cambridge and Louis Cambridge in school before his and Middleton’s titles changed from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the Prince and Princess of Wales upon Charles, 77, ascending the throne.
Charlotte, 11, and Louis, 8, attend Lambrook School, where their 13-year-old brother was previously enrolled.
George is in his first year at Eton College — William’s alma mater — in Berkshire, England, with his parents dropping him off last month.
George, who is as tall as his mother, matched his father in a black suit and a blue tie for his first day on campus.
The teenager then changed into his school uniform, which consists of a black tailcoat, waistcoat, pinstriped pants and a white shirt with a stiff collar.
William attended Eton College from 1995 to 2000, while Harry went there between 1998 and 2003.
Eton College is an all-boys boarding school, the largest in England, and was founded in 1440.
Following news of George’s school choice, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Page Six that the teen’s “biggest challenge won’t be academics or making friends” but rather “balancing [his] privacy with the reality that every classmate has TikTok.”
“William and Harry attended before social media transformed adolescence,” she pointed out in July. “George won’t have that luxury.”
Additionally, Schofield told us George is expected to have his own room, but he’ll still be “immersed in a social environment” and will likely join the athletics program.
Schofield said George will have a leg up at the school since his father is an Eton grad.
“William knows where the pressure points are,” she noted. “He understands the social dynamics, the academic expectations and the emotional challenges.”
