Patrick Mahomes Resumes Throwing as Recovery From ACL Injury Continues

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has reached another encouraging milestone in his recovery from the torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2025 NFL season.
Mahomes suffered the season-ending knee injury during the Chiefs’ Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14, 2025. An ACL injury typically requires approximately nine months of rehabilitation, placing his potential return on track for the start of the 2026 regular season, provided his recovery continues as planned.
The Chiefs recently shared a brief video on social media showing the franchise quarterback back on the practice field. Wearing a black compression sleeve on his injured leg, Mahomes was seen comfortably dropping back and throwing passes—an encouraging sign that his rehabilitation is progressing well.
Although the six-second clip offered only a glimpse of his workout, it provided fans with a positive update as anticipation builds for his eventual return.
Earlier this year, Mahomes expressed optimism about his recovery while emphasizing the importance of following the medical team’s guidance.
“Rehab is going great so far. I’ve been hitting all the checkpoints the doctors have set for me, and I’m getting my strength and mobility back,” Mahomes said. “My goal is to be ready for Week 1, but I want to make sure I’m fully healthy and able to help the team compete at the highest level.”
The two-time NFL MVP added that he hopes to participate in offseason team activities and training camp if his rehabilitation continues without setbacks.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs strengthened their quarterback depth during the offseason by acquiring Justin Fields, providing additional insurance as Mahomes continues his recovery.
While Kansas City’s medical staff has not yet confirmed a timetable for his return, Mahomes’ latest workout suggests he remains on a positive path toward being available for the start of the 2026 campaign.
