NEWS: Republican congressional candidate Rick Jackson spent the primary tying himself closely to Trump. After winning the nomination, Trump’s name quietly started disappearing from his campaign website.
Rick Jackson spent his entire primary campaign wrapping himself in Donald Trump. Now that he’s won the nomination and faces a general election electorate, he’s quietly erasing him.
MeidasTouch compared an archived version of Jackson’s “Action Plan” page from June 14 with the current version of the page, and found that Jackson’s campaign deleted a reference to Trump from the site, along with walking back two of his signature promises.
In June, Jackson’s website promised: “Rick Jackson will work with President Trump to protect Georgians from the consequences of Washington’s failures.”
As of late September, the same line reads: “Rick Jackson will work to protect Georgians from the consequences of Washington’s failures.”
The deletion is striking because Trump has been the centerpiece of Jackson’s campaign from day one. He has said he’ll govern “just like Trump,” and he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he “couldn’t name a single White House policy he disagrees with.” He has repeatedly promised voters he’ll be “Trump’s favorite governor” and described himself as “Trump with a Southern tone.”
He’s also put his money where his mouth is, giving Trump multiple $1 million donations, including as recently as June, the same month his website still proudly promised to work with the president.
And even as Trump’s policies hit Georgia families, Jackson won’t hold him accountable. When a reporter asked about the impact of Trump’s Iran war and tariffs on Georgia’s agricultural industry, Jackson said he’s “not going to be blaming the federal government for everything.”
Jackson hasn’t changed his positions. He hasn’t broken with Trump on a single policy. He’s just decided Georgia voters shouldn’t see Trump’s name on his plan anymore. With Trump’s approval at a career low and Democrats running competitively across red and purple states, it looks like Jackson knows exactly how much of a liability Trump has become. He’s betting voters won’t notice.
