There are only roughly 50 more opportunities to see a game at Arrowhead Stadium before the Chiefs move to a new domed facility in Kansas City, Kansas. If you’re wondering whether to put a Chiefs game at Arrowhead on your bucket list, actor Tom Cruise encourages you to do it.
Cruise was on the New Heights podcast and raved about watching the Chiefs’ 31-10 win over the Broncos on “Monday Night Football.” One caveat: Cruise was in the luxury box with Travis Kelce’s wife, superstar singer Taylor Swift, and their friends and family. That’s not how most fans at Arrowhead watch the Chiefs but the atmosphere impressed Cruise, the actor who starred in “Top Gun,” the “Mission Impossible” franchise and “Risky Business.”
“It was so fun,” Cruise said on the podcast episode that was released Friday. “All your friends, all the people there, just such a beautiful vibe. And to see (Patrick) Mahomes, his comeback is just miraculous.
“But you guys together and the whole team together was just — it was a wonderful experience.” Cruise said he had been texting with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ahead of his visit to Kansas City. And Cruise started to type a message before holding off.
“I was gonna write you, like I told you last night,” Cruise said. “I was like, ‘Now listen, I’m not coming to Kansas (City) to see you lose.’ We were texting back and forth. I had this thing, and I was like, ‘I’m not sending it. He knows it already. I’m not sending this.’” That drew a laugh from Kelce, Cruise and Jason Kelce, the New Heights co-host.
Taylor Swift: Football expert Cruise said Swift mentioned Super Bowl LVII, which the Chiefs and Travis Kelce won against the Eagles and Jason Kelce. “By the way, I was sitting next to Taylor last night. She told me … it was so funny. She was talking about your first date. We were talking about football,” Cruise said. “What she said (on the first date) was like, ‘How was it you two hitting each other?’” Swift wasn’t well-versed at football when she first met Kelce, so she thought the Kelce brothers were on the field at the same time during Super Bowl LVII.
But now Swift knows football inside-out. “She sees the flags coming in,” Kelce said. “Like ‘Oh, that might be a defensive hold.’ I’m just like, ‘what? What’d you say, sweetie?’ She was like, ‘’That’s encroachment.’ I’m like, ‘You know what that is?’ She’s on it now. She got fully engulfed in it.” Cruise learned that first-hand. “She was schooling me,” Cruise said. “’This is happening or that is happening. He’s coming in.’ It was awesome.”
